Here is a proven strategy that might surprise you. It’s an email that’s basically 9 words, and more often than not, it works surprisingly well. It’s been used for years behind the scenes by people in the insurance and real estate industries. Dean Jackson finally put the entire concept to paper, and Todd Molloy wrote a lengthy blog post about it.
The basic concept is:
You take all of your old contacts and/or “dead leads”, and then send them an email using the following 9 words:
“Are you still looking at getting [insert] [your] [service]?”
Here are some examples:
“Are you still looking at getting an Asset Based Loan?”
“Are you still looking at getting a new lender?”
“Are you sill looking at getting a new car?”
“Are you still looking at getting help with your retirement portfolio?”
“Are you still looking at getting a company newsletter printed?”
“Are you still looking at getting a (fill the blank)”
Here is an example of what the email should look:
From: johnsmith@ABC Financial Services
To: bob@prospect.com
Subject: Bob
Are you still looking at getting a new accounting platform?
– John
That’s it! Don’t add anything else to the email.
When you send this email 3 possible things can happen:
- They don’t respond – in which case you are no worse off than you were before.
- They reply and say no (or some variation thereof) – this is not a bad thing because now you know where they stand now, and at least know they took the time to read your email.
- They reply with something other than no, and that’s when the magic happens.
Don’t underestimate the power of this strategy. I’ve seen it work time and time again, sometimes with astounding results.
Best wishes for much success.
