This week’s topic is about you.
You, and the fact that to your customer, there’s nobody like you.
I was recently in a retail store with my wife. There were three to four other customers in the store, two employees, and the owner. We looked around for about 15 minutes, and not once did any of the employees or owner say one word to us. This drives me nuts! I usually just chalk it up to stupidity, but in reality, it’s probably more a case of just plain laziness.
Think of how many businesses or vendors you deal with on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis where you personally never take the time to say “thanks” for doing business with us. Some of those customers may be spending a few hundred dollars, or maybe tens of thousands of dollars. In case you don’t realize it (and you should), these customers actually have choices, probably many choices.
So whether you provide a service, or sell groceries, software, automobiles, clothing, lend money, or anything else, set your business apart. Make your customers feel special. Just take a few minutes each week to drop some of them a quick hand signed thank you note (snail mail). Let them know that you know they have many choices where they can “xxxx”, and that you appreciate the fact that they chose your firm.
This takes very little effort, but will pay huge dividends in solidifying your relationship. It will also set you apart from your competitors. Trust me, none of your CEO or Business Owner competitors are doing this. The secondary benefit is that it also opens up the door for them to share with you any problems that may be putting your relationship with them at risk.
As always, have a great week!
